Biography

 

A native of the San Francisco Bay area, Javier recently relocated to British Columbia and is a newcomer to the Vancouver music scene. Prior to relocating he studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) under the tutelage of Leroy Kromm. While in San Francisco he had the pleasure of performing in the Golden Gate Men’s Chorus under the direction of Joseph Jennings.

At SFCM Javier had the opportunity to perform the role of Bob from Menotti’s Old Maid and the Thief directed by Heather Mathews and also  had the honour of working and studying with Kathryn Cathcart, Rick Harrell, Mark Bruce and Darryl Cooper.


Javier has enjoyed performing on stage in a variety of capacities from choirs to musical theatre to opera. He has performed such musical theatre roles as: The Baker in Into the Woods, Perchik in Fiddler on the Roof, Bela Zangler in Crazy for you, and Mr. McQueen in Urinetown. While  performing in the San Francisco Conservatory of Music’s opera program Javier enjoyed playing David in A Hand of Bridge by Samuel Barber in addition to his role in Old Maid and the Thief. Javier has performed several great works as a chorus member but has had the immense pleasure of being a soloist in the Missa Criolla under the direction of Mr. Jim Heiner and  the baritone soloist in Faure’s Requiem for the Chabot College Choir.


In addition to singing Javier has enjoyed acting at Renaissance Faires throughout California. He has performed with the Yeoman of the Guard, the Belles of Bedlam and has portrayed Sir Philip Sydney with The Royal Order of the Tudor Rose. While participating in The Great Dickens Christmas Fair in San Francisco he portrayed Pip from Great Expectations, Smike from Nicholas Nickleby as well as danced with the company of Fezziwig’s Dance Hall performing 19th century ballroom dancing.


Javier currently resides in Vancouver with his husband where this November he will be performing in the University of British Columbia Opera Ensemble’s production of Gianni Schicchi as Betto di Signa. He has been admitted into the Opera program at the University of British Columbia where he is currently studying with Mr. Peter Barcza  working toward completing his Bachelors of Music Degree.
